Recovery after your Austin hair transplant will depend largely on the surgical options you choose. With a strip harvesting method, a scalpel is used to remove sections of scalp and hair from the back of the head. These excisions are then sutured or stapled shut, and may take up to six weeks to fully heal.
The board-certified plastic surgeons at Restora Austin Plastic Surgery Centre do not offer the strip method due to its increased risks and longer recovery period.

Recovery after NeoGraft
Dr. Dustin Reid and Dr. Ashley Gordon are pleased to offer NeoGraft, the latest follicular unit extraction (FUE) method. With NeoGraft, hairs are extracted singly or in bundles of three to four with a hand-held device that does not make incisions. Because incisions are not made, there is no need for sutures or staples, which makes recovery from the procedure almost immediate.
Individual hair follicles are then placed in the recipient area, which may produce some mild discomfort for 24-48 hours, but most people are able to resume work and the majority of regular activities within 24 hours.
Each person has a different healing response, which makes it difficult to guarantee a short or negligible recovery period in every case. However, our board-certified Texas plastic surgeons have the training and experience to help ensure your safety and comfort, and take every precaution to help shorten or eliminate your recovery period.
We care about your health and happiness. During your initial Austin hair transplantation consultation we will discuss recovery as well as the hair restoration results you can expect following the NeoGraft procedure.
